The Pacific Northwest offers incredible diversity within short distances - you can fly from the Pacific Ocean, across the Olympic coastal mountain range, over Puget Sound, and into the Cascade mountains in a single flight. This region provides access to some of the world's most beautiful scenery, including emerald forests, snow-capped volcanoes, glacier fields, and opportunities to spot whales in Puget Sound or mountain goats in the Cascades.

Mountain flying introduces several risks that require proper planning and mitigation. Mountainous terrain significantly affects wind and weather patterns, often requiring flights at higher altitudes that push aircraft performance limits. Emergency or precautionary landing options are typically limited in mountainous areas. Our seminar teaches you to identify, plan for, and mitigate these risks effectively.
-
Our seminars are led by Chief Flight Instructor Shawn Pratt, who brings extensive mountain flying experience from the Appalachian, Rocky, Cascade, Olympic, and Sierra mountains, as well as Alaska. Growing up in Sitka, Alaska, Shawn developed his passion for general aviation through family seaplane adventures exploring Southeast Alaska. He holds ATP, CFI Gold Seal, and AGI certificates and has flown small aircraft across the country through challenging terrain and weather conditions.
